The share of online retail in Russia reached 18.8%: key trends in the e-commerce market in 2025

AKIT has summed up the results of 2025 in the online trading market. The main takeaway: e-commerce is becoming not just a sales channel, but the foundation of retail in many regions of the country.

The share of online sales in the total retail trade volume in Russia increased from 16.2% to 18.8%. At the same time, in regions with underdeveloped offline infrastructure, this figure is significantly higher. For example, in Chukotka, online sales account for 34.5% of all retail, and in Karachay-Cherkessia, the Murmansk and Kaluga regions — around 27-28%.

The market continues to balance out: Moscow's share of total online sales decreased from 17.3% to 16.5%. The most dynamic growth in volume was recorded in the national republics:

  • Chechnya and Ingushetia — growth of over 100%
  • Dagestan and Crimea — over 90%
  • Sevastopol, Nenets Autonomous District, Kaliningrad and Kursk regions — around 50%

The top 10 regions by sales volume remain stable. After Moscow (16.5%) come the Moscow region (7.8%), St. Petersburg (6.2%), Krasnodar Territory (4.8%), Sverdlovsk and Rostov regions (2.8% each).

The main structural shift is the strengthening of the "Food Products" category (share 18.8%), which has overtaken traditional leaders—furniture, clothing, and electronics. This indicates that online shopping has become part of the daily routine for Russians, and not just a way to save money on major purchases.
