Sellers appeal to the E-commerce Union over Wildberries' new rules

A group of Wildberries sellers has submitted a collective appeal to the E-Commerce Union, requesting a review of the marketplace's new logistics pricing rules. According to the sellers, the updated system has significantly reduced profitability for a number of businesses.

The appeal was signed by 24 sellers, who argue that major changes to cooperation terms should be discussed with market participants before they are implemented.

What has changed

Following an update to its seller agreement in March 2026, Wildberries introduced the Sales Distribution Index (SDI), which is now used to calculate logistics service fees. The marketplace also revised the methodology for calculating reverse logistics costs, including fees for returned goods after customer cancellations or returns.

Wildberries stated that these changes were introduced in response to developments in the freight transportation market and rising operating costs.

Sellers' position

According to Vitaly Gavrilov, President of the E-Commerce Union, sellers are asking the marketplace to assess whether the SDI should apply to all merchants, revise the calculation methodology based on established business practices, and establish an open dialogue with market participants before introducing similar changes.

Sellers also point out that the cost of product returns is now linked to the retail price of an item, which has significantly increased operating expenses in several product categories.

As Gavrilov noted, many merchants have experienced a substantial decline in profitability since the new rules took effect, with some products becoming barely profitable—or even unprofitable.

Rising cost pressure on sellers

The situation comes amid another update to Wildberries' commercial terms. The marketplace recently announced an increase in commission fees for a number of product categories, citing higher logistics and fuel costs.

For sellers, these developments mean growing operational expenses and the need to reassess product assortments, pricing strategies, and overall sales economics.
