Top categories on marketplaces: a brief overview of trends

The e-commerce analytics service Sellematics and New Retail have identified the top 3 fastest-growing segments on marketplaces. Here’s a brief overview of the main trends within each of them.

Home goods: demand for comfort

Since 2023, demand for home fragrances has been steadily growing, as confirmed by data from both marketplaces and analytics services. The leader in search queries is bedding. In addition to bedding, buyers often pay attention to curtains (especially blackout curtains), mirrors, nightlights, organizers (essential for creating order and comfort), as well as cleaning and laundry products.

New revenue leaders in this category include Marianna, offering furniture textiles that allow for a quick update of furniture appearance, and Zetter—a seller of mops with wringers.

Fashion: basics and comfort

In this category, new leaders are brands specializing in basic wardrobe items and those offering comfortable clothing and underwear. Among the top 15 most popular search queries are t-shirts, dresses, sneakers, skirts, and jeans. Men's sneakers and t-shirts also appear frequently, though a bit less often, in search requests.

Groceries: both familiar and new products

Groceries are also being purchased more and more actively on marketplaces. There is steady demand for both familiar products (coffee, tea, candy, chips) and new items (chia seeds, pistachio paste). Demand rises especially during the winter season, which is associated with preparations for the holidays.

Growing interest in hobby products

Meanwhile, experts at Megamarket have noted a growing interest in arts and crafts materials: over the past year, this category has seen an increase of about 14%, with the average purchase amount rising by 138%. The best-selling items are for appliqué, decorating, and sculpting. Demand for fishing gear has doubled, while demand for floristry supplies has grown by 1.5 times.
In 2024, women most often purchase fiction books, drawing and craft supplies, while men tend to buy model kits, musical accessories, and DJ equipment.
