Marketplaces are being prepared for a ban on pricing
The Ministry of Industry and Trade has proposed banning marketplaces from setting prices for goods. This was reported by RBC, citing a bill developed by the ministry.
The ministry proposes limiting the influence of online platforms on pricing, reserving this right for sellers. The document envisions a phased change in the approach to price formation. In the first stage, marketplaces will be required to agree on any product discounts with sellers. Sellers, in turn, will have the ability to prohibit promotions on both their entire product range and individual items.
The Ministry of Industry and Trade clarified that a complete ban on marketplaces participating in determining the cost of goods may be introduced in subsequent stages. The ministry emphasizes that such measures are necessary to level the playing field: due to predatory pricing on large platforms, other sellers are losing customers.
