Significant updates to Russia's mandatory and experimental product labeling system came into effect on October 1st. These measures are designed to increase market transparency and combat illegal products.
Voluntary experiment for home goods
A free labeling experiment for home goods launched, set to run until August 31, 2026. Its goal is to test the system's functionality and the application of codes on different types of packaging.
What is included in the experiment:
Tableware
Cleaning products
Interior and decorative items
Reason for launch: A high level of illegal trade. According to HSE University data, the share of counterfeit goods in this segment reaches 26%.
Cosmetics and household chemicals
Since October 1st, manufacturers and importers are required to apply digital codes to a wide range of products, including:
Toothpaste and mouthwash
Face and hand creams
Lipsticks and lip glosses
Other care products
Industry statistics:
Over 50,000 market participants are registered in the system
These include 6.7 thousand manufacturers and 4.8 thousand importers
Even before the mandatory requirements began, 55 million product units were introduced into circulation
