China is building cooperation with a number of European countries. The most successful partners for China last year were Germany and France.
Exports to Germany Increased 105-fold
According to the Federal Statistical Office of Germany, in 1980, China ranked 35th among countries of origin for German imports. By 2000, China had risen to 10th place. In 2018, the volume of electronic product imports from China to Germany reached approximately €37.8 billion. Major import categories include computer equipment, consumer electronics, and similar goods.
By the end of 2018, the total volume of bilateral trade between Germany and China exceeded €199 billion. Over the past 40 years, this figure has increased 105 times.
As of February 2019, China’s foreign trade volume in goods reached $266.36 billion, which is 13.8% less than in February 2018. For January–February 2019, the country’s total foreign trade volume reached $622.72 billion.

Trade with France
Last year saw especially rapid growth in exports of French agricultural and pharmaceutical products, cosmetics, and luxury clothing. As of January–February 2019, bilateral trade between France and China reached $10.6 billion, an increase of 19.4% year-on-year. In particular, imports of French goods into China jumped by 42.2%.
At the same time, France ranks fourth among investors in the Chinese economy, and third by the volume of Chinese investments attracted to France. Last year, the volume of direct capital investments from France to China increased by 28%, and from China to France by 12%. By the end of January this year, the total volume of investment between the two countries exceeded $40 billion.
