Experts at Megamarket have analyzed which products see growing demand in autumn and provided a forecast for the current season. Sales are increasing for New Year’s décor and home comfort items, board games, and winter sports equipment.
The trend toward buying home goods in Russia has been noticeable since late summer. In particular, interest in home textiles rises in autumn: demand triples compared to the summer period. Buyers are looking at desk lamps, diffusers, and aromatic sticks. Orders in the "Home Fragrances" category are twice as high in autumn as in summer, with customers aged 25–44 making these purchases most often. “Zoomers” (ages 18–34) are more interested in candles—demand for them grows 3–4 times in autumn. However, the best time for candle sales is winter: sales in this period are 75% higher than in autumn.
With the start of the heating season, purchases of humidifiers and air purifiers also become more frequent: based on last season’s data, demand increases fourfold compared to the summer months. Sales of moisturizing creams are on the rise as well: due to the weather and drier indoor air, they are bought twice as often. Hot drinks also help Russians stay warm as the season turns.
Another trend is a sharp increase in demand for tableware in autumn: compared to summer, the number of orders grows by 1.5 times. Items such as mugs, thermoses, travel mugs, cups, teapots, and coffee makers see orders increase 2–3 times compared to summertime, reaching their peak in winter.
Sales of board games are growing year on year, but they also have a clear seasonal pattern: in autumn, interest increases fivefold compared to summer and remains high until the end of winter.
There is a surge in demand for Christmas decorations and trees in autumn, with sales starting in October. The seasonal peak comes at the end of November and in December, with sales up to 300% higher than at the start of the season.
In November and December, sales in the “Winter Outdoor Recreation” category quadruple; skis are especially popular, while skates and snowboards are mostly purchased a bit later, at the start of winter.
